Chapter 9 Third-person POV Even the housemaid began to worry, but seeing that something was clearly wrong with George, she still tried to comfort him gently. "Alpha, Luna isn't the type to make people worry. Maybe her phone died... or maybe she went back to Rosehip Pack to see her parents." "After all, with everything that happened today, even if you only pretended to break the mate bond for Finley's sake, those news reports would upset anyone." She chose her words carefully.
Truthfully, she disapproved of the way George had hidden the truth of how he had taken Margaret's newborn pup and given him to another woman to raise. She found it cruel, even unforgivable. But after seeing Luna so calm this morning, walking along with them to process the Bond-Breaking Deal, she thought perhaps Luna had decided to let go and give Alpha another chance. George caught onto a particular word instantly. "News reports?" The maid, startled by his expression, quickly unlocked her phone and handed it to him.
As George scrolled through the sensational headlines and ambiguous photographs, his vision darkened. He nearly collapsed. He had spent the entire day attending to the elders, the visiting Alphas, business partners, and Finley. He hadn't seen any of the breaking news sweeping across the pack continent. If Margaret saw all this... He didn't dare imagine how it must have shattered her. Suddenly, a terrible thought struck him. He rushed to the study. The most hidden drawer held all the important documents belonging to him and Margaret, the passports, IDs, pack certificates. He pulled it open.
Cold sweat instantly coated his back. Half the documents were gone. Everything belonging to Margaret was gone. Only his remained. George collapsed into the chair. Margaret must have seen the news. She must have been hurt, and furious. Chapter 9 6.47% Her clothes were still here. Her toiletries were still here. All the little souvenirs they bought around the world were still neatly displayed. She couldn't have deliberately abandoned everything. It had to be an impulsive disappearance. A moment of heartbreak. A temporary escape. Margaret rarely went anywhere outside of accompanying him.

Her only close friend was Paige. If Margaret wasn't at home, she had either gone to Paige, or returned to Rosehip Pack. With that thought, George got up immediately and sped to Paige's home. But Paige didn't even open the door for him. She simply shouted from behind it. "I haven't seen her." George questioned her house staff as well. No one had seen Margaret. The unease clawing at his chest grew heavier and sharper. He hurried toward Rosehip Pack next. Rosehip Pack's internal relationships were notoriously complicated.
Margaret's ties with her family had always been strained, she almost never returned home. Yet he couldn't think of anywhere else she might go. He searched every place he could think of. By the time he reached Rosehip Pack, it was nearly dawn. Margaret's parents were already asleep. The butler rushed out in alarm, thinking something disastrous had happened to bring the Bluebell Alpha to their door in the middle of the night. It took several rounds of questioning, waking half the household, before George finally accepted the truth that Margaret had not returned here.
Her father frowned in disapproval. "Margaret is a grown she-wolf, yet she still throws these childish tantrums. As a Luna, she should have more grace and composure." Her mother sighed as well. "George, you spoiled her too much. Now she's run off like this. When she returns, I'll make sure to discipline her properly." George was speechless. He'd always known Margaret's relationship with her parents was distant. But only tonight did he realize, Margaret may never have felt true warmth or love in Rosehip Pack.
And in Bluebell Pack, she had endured years of subtle scorn for failing to produce an heir, all while suffering in silence. Chapter 9 6.47% A shard of regret pierced him. He once believed that because Margaret was Rosehip Pack's Alpha princess, Bluebell Pack would never dare mistreat her. That was why, when Isla sobbed about not being able to bear a child, he impulsively handed Margaret's newborn pup over to her instead. But now... Was that decision ever right? Margaret had left Bluebell Pack. She hadn't gone to Rosehip Pack. She hadn't gone to Paige. Then where could she have gone?
The darkness was absolute, a suffocating shroud that offered no answers, only silence. George couldn't see the path ahead, not even a glimmer of it. He ordered his assistant to mobilize every available resource of airport security, train terminals, transportation networks to perform full-scale search for Margaret. Meanwhile, he sat in his car and smoked an entire pack of cigarettes, one after another. But the report that came back made his blood run cold. Luna had indeed traveled today. But she had purchased multiple airline tickets, for flights in completely different directions.
They had no idea which flight she actually boarded. Only then did George finally understand. Margaret hadn't left on impulse. She had planned to leave long before he ever noticed.
