Chapter 13 Margaret's POV For an Alpha as proud as the leader of Bluebell Pack, such humiliation should have been unbearable. Yet George did something utterly unlike himself, he bought the house next door. He moved in beside us, as though this quiet corner of northern Europe had suddenly become his new Pack territory. He even shifted most of Bluebell Pack's affairs here, handling pack business from afar. He no longer looked ruined or desperate. But he never once visited us. He simply existed nearby, silent, and always watching from the low fence that separated the yards.

He watched me and Callum stroll through the snowy garden. Watched us take the Labrador out for evening walks. Watched us grilling in the warm glasshouse out back. Watched spring come, watched us plant roses and herbs side by side... At one point, George even brought Finley to stay for a while. The boy had grown taller and sturdier. Life in Bluebell Pack hadn't treated him poorly at all. He was more polite now, more self-contained. But there was never a bond between him and me, not then, not now. Even though George hoped Finley's presence might spark something, the truth was simple.

I didn't want to force a child who clearly found the situation uncomfortable. And Finley, for all his newfound manners, still didn't know how to face me. Soon, George sent him back to Bluebell Pack. And then George returned to quietly observing the life he no longer belonged to. I never understood why he stayed, why the Moon Goddess seemed determined to play strange tests on wolves. But I didn't interfere. Then came the day I gave birth. When me and Callum brought our newborn pup home from the pack hospital, the entire front yard was buried under a mountain of gifts. Only beautiful handwritten blessings. I asked Callum to return everything to George's yard. The next morning, I found the entire pile dumped untouched in the garbage bins. Chapter 13 9.35% Three months later, the aurora painted the night sky in sweeping curtains of green and violet. I stood in the yard, holding my baby, admiring the shimmering light. George appeared suddenly, dragging a suitcase, standing at the gate. His figure looked smaller than I remembered. He didn't speak at first. His eyes, though, his eyes held nothing but quiet sorrow. I wasn't intended to acknowledge him.

But after a long silence, he finally stepped closer and spoke hoarsely. "Margaret... I've been away from my Pack too long. I have to return to Bluebell Pack now. I've watched you these past months." "You're happy. You've moved on. And I... I've reflected on everything. Truly." He paused, as though pulling strength from the cold northern air. "I know I shouldn't ask, but if I don't, I'll regret it forever. For the sake of what we once had...

would you give me one last chance?" His voice sounded rough, stripped of pride, as though he had rehearsed this sentence countless times before arriving here. Under the magnificent sky glowing with northern lights, memory forced its way back into my mind. I remembered a birthday years ago, when my only wish was for George to take me to see the aurora. Legend said that lovers who witnessed the lights together would remain together forever. And now here we stood under the very lights I once wished for. Nothing left but distance. Once, I had loved him deeply.

At seventeen, in that Italian alley when he chased down a pack of thieves for me, I thought he was a hero. I remembered him fighting them off, bloodied yet silent, then carrying her on his back for miles. I remembered discovering he was a wolf too, and how my world shifted. I remembered him learning my favorite dishes from video tutorials abroad. I remembered the gentleness, the way he treated me like precious glass while I carried his child. I remembered my mother teasing them, "No Alpha should dote on his Luna this much." I remembered thinking I had chosen the right man.

And I remembered the moment that illusion shattered when the same man placed my newborn pup into another woman's arms without hesitation. Chapter 13 9.35% He had loved me and betrayed me simultaneously, a contradiction I no longer wished to unravel. All of the tenderness he once showed me, all of the sweetness he drowned me in were nothing but symptoms of his guilt. If I was the Margaret of three years ago, I might have softened. But time had changed everything. My heart no longer bent toward him. I had grown into her own strength.

I had found real happiness, a life that didn't depend on anyone else's affection. George was no longer my weakness. I didn't even turn back to look at him even once.
