Chapter 101 Dec 26, 2025 POV: Lysander Robert Montgomery looks smaller than he did twenty-four hours ago, slumped in the chair with his lawyer-approved confession face on. The kind of defeated posture that comes from realizing you've been played so thoroughly you can't even see the board anymore. Caroline talked him into this-sat across from her father for three hours explaining exactly how Lia weaponized his love for family legacy and fear of losing everything. Convinced him that cooperation might save whatever's left of the Montgomery name after this shitshow goes public.

"Start from the beginning." I'm leaning against the wall trying to channel Kieran's intimidation energy despite lacking his physical presence. "How did Leah Turner find you?" "She approached me three years ago." Robert's voice is hollow, scraped clean of the arrogance he wore during our previous conversations. "Young lawyer, brilliant mind, said she'd been studying werewolf pack structures for her dissertation. Had this whole academic angle about historical territorial agreements and modern violations." "And you believed her." Not a question-I can see the answer written across his face.

"She presented documentation. Legal precedents dating back to the 1800s, territorial maps, evidence of what she called 'systematic encroachment' by the Silvermoon Pack." His hands spread helplessly. "Made it sound like we were protecting ancestral lands, not hunting innocent people. Said the pack was operating in direct violation of agreements my family helped establish generations ago." Thalia shifts beside me, arms crossed tight enough her knuckles go white. "What kind of evidence?" "Property records showing Fenris Legal Group's expansion into Colorado.

Corporate filings that made it look like deliberate invasion of hunter territory. Communications she claimed were between pack leadership discussing how to 'handle the Montgomery problem.'" He meets her eyes. "It was all real documents. Just... arranged to tell a specific story. A lie." "When did you realize?" Kieran's voice is ice, standing in the doorway with the kind of stillness that precedes violence. "Six months ago. Maybe longer-I don't know anymore." Robert's control cracks completely. "By then she'd integrated herself into every level of my operation.

Had access to finances, contacts, strategy. Knew which hunters to recruit, which targets to hit, how to coordinate attacks for maximum psychological impact." "She knew how to manipulate you." My voice comes out flatter than intended. "Exactly which buttons to push." "Yes." The admission costs him. "She understood what legacy meant to my family. How much weight I carried being the last Montgomery running the ancestral business. Found every insecurity, every fear, every pressure point and exploited it ruthlessly." The interrogation continues through details that make my skin crawl.

Lia-Leah-whatever she's calling herself-spent three years building this web. Convinced Robert that Silvermoon Pack posed existential threat to hunter families. Fed him intelligence about pack vulnerabilities that she gathered through god knows what sources. Coordinated financial attacks on Fenris Legal Group while simultaneously painting wolves as the aggressors. She played him perfectly. Found a man desperate to honor his family's legacy and convinced him genocide was preservation. "Where is she now?" Thalia's hands are shaking slightly, rage barely contained beneath lawyer composure.

"I don't know. She disappeared two days ago when Caroline started asking questions." Robert looks at Kieran. "But she said if anything went wrong, if I failed, she had a backup plan. Something about 'ending where it all began.'" The words hang in the air, cryptic and threatening. "What does that mean?" I ask, though the dread pooling in my gut says we're not going to like the answer. "She never explained. Just said it repeatedly when discussing contingencies." His voice drops. "And she mentioned Montana initially, then changed her story to Peru. But I found financial records after she left.

She's been operating from Colorado the whole time. Close enough to monitor everything, far enough to stay safe." Colorado. Right in our fucking backyard while we've been chasing ghosts across continents. We adjourn the interrogation with instructions for Robert to stay accessible while we process this nightmare. He's cooperating now, probably hoping it'll save him from the legal consequences Caroline outlined during her three-hour intervention. I find her outside the room, pressed against the wall with tears streaming down her face.

She heard everything through the door-her father's confession, his manipulation, the systematic destruction of everything he thought he was protecting. "My father was used." Her voice breaks completely. "He thought he was protecting his family legacy and instead he became a weapon for someone's revenge." I pull her against my chest, arms wrapping tight while she shakes apart. "Lia's good at that. She destroyed Thalia the same way-turned everyone against her by being the perfect victim.

Found their weaknesses and exploited them until they did her dirty work." "How do you fight someone like that?" Caroline's fingers grip my shirt hard enough I feel nails through fabric. "You don't." The answer tastes bitter but honest. "You eliminate them. Permanently." She pulls back enough to look at me, mascara running, eyes red and devastated. "That's not very legally blonde of you." "Neither is genocide, but here we are." My thumb wipes at tears that keep falling. "Your father made choices. Bad ones. But Lia orchestrated everything from the shadows while making him think it was his idea.

That's her gift-manipulation so thorough you can't see the strings." "I defended him." Fresh tears start. "Told you he wasn't that kind of person, that there must be explanations. I was so stupid." "You were hopeful." I kiss her forehead because words aren't enough. "There's a difference. You saw the father you wanted him to be instead of who he became. That's not stupidity-that's love." The bond hums between us, stronger every day, impossible to ignore anymore.

Not the explosive recognition Kieran and Thalia had, but steady certainty that she's mine and I'm hers and whatever happens next, we're facing it together. Thalia appears in the hallway, face doing that thing where all color drains and you know shit just got exponentially worse. "The guest house." Her voice is barely a whisper. "Where it all began. That's where Lia's going." "What guest house?" Caroline asks, pulling herself together with visible effort. "The one on my parents' property." Thalia's already moving, grabbing her phone, pulling up maps.

"Where Kieran and I first-" She stops, can't finish. "Where everything started between us. Where the mate bond formed even though I didn't have my wolf yet." Kieran's expression goes absolutely lethal. "She's going to burn it down." "Not just burn it." Thalia's fingers fly across her phone screen. "That guest house is fifty feet from my parents' main residence. From where they still live. From-" "From where your kids visit their grandparents." I finish, ice flooding my veins. Thalia's hands shake hard enough the phone almost drops. "She's not just ending where it began.

She's ending everyone who began it." Her parents. The ones who locked her in a room during her first heat. Who threatened to rip children from her womb. Who called her worthless for twenty-seven years. They're terrible people who deserve exactly zero sympathy. But they're still Orion, Luna, and Phoenix's grandparents. The kids visit once a month despite everything, maintaining family connection because Thalia's better person than anyone gives her credit for. "When's their next visit?" Kieran's already grabbing keys, moving toward the exit. "Tomorrow." Thalia's voice cracks.

"I'm supposed to drop them off tomorrow morning. Lia knows the schedule. She's been watching, waiting, planning this." "Then we end this tonight." My wolf rises despite not being the Alpha anymore, despite Kieran being stronger and Thalia being Luna. "We find her before she finds them." Caroline's hand finds mine, squeezes once. "I'm coming with you." "Absolutely not." The words come out too harsh. "This is pack business. Dangerous.

You're human and-" "And my father started this war because my family's enemy manipulated him into becoming a weapon." Her chin lifts with that stubborn determination that made me fall for her. "I'm ending what he began. Together or not at all." The bond flares approval even as every protective instinct screams to lock her somewhere safe. But safe doesn't exist anymore. Not while Lia's still breathing. Not while she's planning to burn down the guest house that started everything, with collateral damage including three kids who never asked to be born into this nightmare.

We have maybe twelve hours before she makes her move. And absolutely no idea if that's enough time to stop her. Archer
