Chapter 7 +25 Bonus Chapter 7 When I got to the hospital I saw my mother in the emergency department and I ran over to her bed, She looked really weak and pale and she wasn't even conscious right now. "Are you her daughter?" A doctor asked. "Yeah. What's wrong with her?" I asked. "We're still running some tests. But I don't think it's going to show up on any tests." He said. "What are you talking about?" I asked, confused. "She lost her mate, didn't she?" He asked. "5 years ago." I said. "Well, I have to tell you that she's pretty lucky that she's lasted this long." He said.

"What do you mean?" I asked. "Most mates die shortly after their mate does. She's lasted for five years without her mate. I'm guessing you had something to do with that. She's a very strong woman. But she's getting sicker by the day." He said. "She's working a lot. I thought she was just really tired." I said. "Well, it's more than that. And you need to be prepared for the consequences." He said. "You mean, that she's dying." I said. "I believe that she is. But when that happens is up to her. If she chooses to keep fighting then she might last for a while longer." He said.

"She'll keep fighting. She always does. She's not going to die yet." I insisted. Mom was moved to a room shortly after that, she was hooked up to an IV that was meant to give her the nutrients that she needed and I knew that she was going to have to take a couple of days off now. I wasn't going to let her work while she's like this. She needs to start taking it easy. Otherwise she will work herself to death. And she will die a lot sooner than either of us are prepared.

I was really surprised when they put her in a private room, but when I looked outside into the hallway I saw Beta Levi still standing guard. I eventually went outside the hospital to have a cigarette and Beta Levi followed me out. 2 "Did you put her in that single room?" I asked. "I was just following orders." He said. I stood there studying him for a little bit when I saw that he wasn't making eye contact with me anymore. "Yeah, right." I said. My mother didn't wake up again that night, so I went back to the trailer late that night and I searched the bare cupboards for something that I could make something to eat with.

It wasn't much, but I managed to make a sandwich and then I went to have a shower and I got dressed into a baggy shirt and shorts and I brushed my hair. I went to the kitchen table to try and get some homework done from today and when I looked up, I saw two wolves sitting outside my window looking straight at me. I'd seen them on patrol before and they weren't even trying to hide the fact that they were there. They made it very clear that they were watching me. But I don't know what they expected to see.

They weren't going to be able to go back and tell Logan anything because I wasn't getting up to anything. He didn't want me but he wasn't going to let me go either. Arrogant asshole. Someone knocked on the door so I got up and I went to answer it and it was a delivery guy. He got me to sign for the package before handing me a large box that I took inside. I placed it on the table and I grabbed the card and opened it first. Wear this tomorrow. We have a function that we have to go to tomorrow night. Someone will be at your house to pick you up at 5pm.

I opened the box and there was a beautiful gown and shoes in it that would cost us about 6 months worth of wages if we didn't need to pay rent or buy food or anything.
