---- Chapter 9 Gideon's good days were coming to an end. Everything that had happened to him was his own doing. He had no one to blame but himself. After tidying up the house, I threw out all of his belongings. I had sold the property, and it would be handed over to the new owner ina month. Once everything was settled, I planned to head overseas to find my parents. As for Gideon, he could deal with his own fate. Just then, my phone rang. It was Gideon. Ipicked up, but instead of his voice, a stranger spoke. "Hello, is this Mrs. Huber? Mr. Huber's in the hospital.

He's broken his leg." He broke his leg? If Gideon had done it on purpose to avoid donating blood, it seemed unnecessary. That was too much of a sacrifice. No matter what, he couldn't die yet. I still needed another two million dollars before I could withdraw the money. So I went to the hospital. Outside his hospital room, a few of the homeless men were waiting. When 1 walked in, 1 found Gideon shaking in his bed. The moment he saw me, his eyes lit up, as if I were his salvation. "Kenzie, please help me. I really-" Before he could finish, he saw the homeless men walking in behind me.

Immediately, he fell silent. T understood the situation at once. Gideon had shot himself in the ---- foot. His injury was definitely connected to the homeless men. Before I could speak, they rushed to explain. "Mr. Huber just suddenly went crazy," one said. "He jumped out the window." Another one asked, "Now he's in the hospital, and with you pregnant, who's donating blood tomorrow?" Twaved my hand. "It's his leg that's broken. It won't stop him from donating blood. Helping you guys is his blessing." Gideon choked at my words, and he looked at me with pleading eyes. But I ignored him.

"Isn't that right, honey?" All eyes turned to Gideon, who reluctantly gave a weak smile and nodded. The next morning, the homeless men wheeled Gideon to the blood donation center. After donating, he was utterly drained. And I'd accumulated another million dollars. Just one more million, and I could cash out and disappear. Once the homeless men had gotten their blood donation rewards, they abandoned Gideon outside, leaving him shivering in the cold. "Push me back home! It's freezing!" Gideon shouted after them, but no one paid him any attention. In the end, a neighbor called Lily.

She immediately rushed over and pushed him back home. Lily cried hysterically, collapsing to the floor. "It's my fault, Gideon. I'm so sorry. It has only been a few days, and look at what's ---- happened to you." Gideon, as if resigned to it all, didn't seem to feel much pain. He took Lily's hand and said, "Mom, I'm sorry for being harsh before. I didn't mean to hurt you." "It's okay, Gideon. Just listen to me. Get rid of them, alright?

You're in such bad shape now!" It turned out that the day before the blood donation, some of the homeless men, seeing Gideon's decent appearance, had decided to target him. Gideon, realizing what was happening, had rushed to the balcony, but they closed in on him. Left with no choice, he jumped. But when he heard Lily's plan to get rid of the homeless people, his expression darkened, and he shook her hand off. "How could you even think that?" he snapped. "They're so pitiful! How can you be so heartless? You really shock me!" Lily was taken aback by his words.

She let out a long sigh and didn't say anything more. But Gideon didn't know that this was the last conversation they would ever have.
