Chapter 6 I remembered it as a stormy night. By the time Bruce and Sean came home, they were soaked through. I fetched towels and told them to dry their hair and take a proper shower. "You two should dry off and wash up after. I'll make you some tea to warm up, or you'll catch a cold," I said. "How did you both get so wet? Didn't I tell you it might rain before you left? I even packed umbrellas for you." They said nothing in response and hurried into the bathroom instead. At the time, I'd assumed they'd left their umbrellas at the office and didn't press the subject.
When I stepped into the kitchen, I saw Sally standing outside through the window. My heart lurched in my chest. She was waving her phone at me with a smile. In the next instant, my phone buzzed with a notification. I clicked on the message she sent, which revealed a photo of her with the Grahams at the cinema. They looked like a happy family together. "Old hag, you think you belong in the Graham family? Get out of here before you regret it," her message read. Sally glanced up and smirked at me.
Pretending not to notice, I replied, "If they really liked you, they wouldn't have let you remain a mistress." I closed the curtains and carried the brewed tea into the study. I kept telling myself that Sally had faked the photo and the message. After all, Bruce and Sean had told me they were at the office working on a project. Sean went to help because he didn't want his father to be overwhelmed with work. Meanwhile, I had been home, down with a fever of close to 104°F, and hadn't left the house. Of course, they cared about me. They loved me, didn't they?

But as I repeated that to myself for the third time, I heard them whispering through the study door. "Dad, what should we do to kick Mom out and leave her with nothing? "I really hate her. She nags me about homework and won't let me play games or watch TV. I want Sally to be my mom instead. Is that okay?" Sean pleaded, clinging to Bruce's robe. Smiling, Bruce stroked his son's hair. "You like Sally? I do, too. That's why I gave her my umbrella in the rain. She's younger, prettier, and kinder than your mom.
So how do we make your mom give up everything willingly?" A sharp jolt of pain shot through my chest at that moment. My hands were trembling, and the soft clink of porcelain moving against the tray didn't stop me from hearing what they said next. "Dad, can you divorce Mom?" Bruce's expression turned grim. "Your mom has to file for divorce first. Otherwise, the marital assets will be split, and Sally and the two of us will end up struggling." "I don't want Sally to struggle," Sean protested. "I want her to live comfortably. "I heard there's a court that handles this.
If we set a trap for Mom, she'll end up losing. And when she does, she'll walk away with nothing." Bruce gave him a thumbs-up. "You're clever, Sean. We'll do just that."
