---- Chapter 5 Victor looked up. I backed away at once, clutching the ragdoll to my chest. My palms were slick with sweat. Thad no idea whether Victor had seen me or not. The ragdoll whispered angrily, "What are you doing? Are you scared of them? Weren't we supposed to scare them?" I whispered back, "We're in big trouble. There is someone terrifying down there." "'So what? We have better items. Why should we be scared of him?" Of course, I was scared. Every single item I carried came from Victor. If I used too many of them in front of him, there was no way he wouldn't recognize me.

When the ragdoll clearly did not understand, I told it the truth. "There's a player down there called Victor." The ragdoll froze. ---- "Victor? The number one player? The Godslayer everyone talks about?" When I nodded, all its confidence drained away, and its whole body started trembling. "The Godslayer. It's the Godslayer... "We actually ran into the deadliest killer in the entire dungeon! "No monster survives after meeting him. What do we do? I'm just an innocent doll who eats people. This isn't fair! Waaaahh..." Iwas scared, too.

I was scared that he would discover I had been working in dungeons all this time without telling him. But panicking wouldn't help. I forced myself to stay calm and hid with the ragdoll. The group came inside, and footsteps filled the cabin. I pressed my palms together, praying that they wouldn't go upstairs. From downstairs, we could hear them talking about how late it was and that they planned to stay the night. ---- Now, I was praying for one thing only: that no one would walk all the way to the room at the end of the second- floor hallway. Because that was where I was, under the bed.

Of course, fear has a way of summoning exactly what you dread. Footsteps sounded in the stairwell, slow and even. Then in the hallway. They got closer and closer... until they stopped. Right outside my door. The handle turned, and the door creaked open. The person outside paused, as if inspecting the room. Then they stepped inside. I covered my mouth and curled tighter beneath the bed, afraid to even breathe. Black leather boots crossed the floor with soft, heavy steps. Every footstep felt like it landed straight on my heart.

---- After making a slow circuit of the room, he stopped at the bed. The mattress dipped as he sat down. The room fell into a deeper silence. I barely dared to inhale. Then someone knocked at the door, and a man's polite voice drifted in from outside. "Vic, it is completely dark. Do you wanna come down and eat?" "T'm not hungry. You all go ahead." The sound of that familiar, low voice made my body go cold. It really was Victor. I waited for a long time. After I was sure he had fallen asleep, I added another puff of sleeping mist and slowly wriggled out from under the bed.

Victor was a light sleeper. ---- Even with the mist, there was no guarantee he wouldn't wake up. I moved inch by inch, afraid to make a sound. Second by second, I reached the door. If I could just open it and slip away, I would be free. leased the door open a crack, but a hand suddenly slammed it shut. "Leaving without saying hello?" The voice above my head sounded lazy and dangerous. The ragdoll fainted in my arms. 1 felt like fainting, too. "That won't work." His voice was rough with irritation, the voice of someone who hadn't slept well. The chat exploded.

(Big V hates being disturbed while resting. Last time a dungeon boss tried to ambush him, he ended it with one strike. Brutal and clean.] [That little monster is done. Of all the people she could run into, it had to be Big V. Talk about bad luck!]
