Chapter 6 The door creaked open. Poppy stood in the doorway in the pink dress I'd deliberately put her in this morning. Her eyes were red-she'd been crying. My father's security detail stood right behind her. Archer froze like he'd been struck by lightning. All the color drained from his face. He opened his mouth, but no words came out. "Daddy," Poppy said quietly, her voice thick with tears. "Don't you love me?" Archer staggered backward, barely staying upright. Of course he loved her. Just not enough. He'd always thought Poppy had everything-a legitimate name, a family who adored her.
So when he looked at her, all he felt was guilt for Felicity. Archer stared at Poppy, the daughter he used to hold so carefully, now looking back at him with the most innocent-and most devastating-gaze. "Poppy, no, that's not-Daddy loves you, I" He stumbled over his words, reaching for her. But Poppy flinched. That look of fear stopped him cold. "I heard..." Poppy whispered, tears streaming down her face "You said Felicity is your kid... so what about me? Am I just.. just a donor?" Hearing that word-donor-come out of a five-year-old's mouth made my chest tighten painfully.
But she needed to hear it. She needed to understand that even Daddy could hurt her. That's how she'd learn to protect herself. "No, Poppy, let Daddy explain!" Archer finally found his voice, desperate to get closer. I stepped in front of Poppy, blocking his view. 12:39 Grandma Doesn't Know Me? "Archer, do you even DESERVE to explain?" "Ahhh-" Suddenly, Felicity let out a piercing scream from the hospital bed. "I don't want this!

I don't want to be sick anymore! I hate hospitals! I hate shots and medicine!" She flailed her arms, sobbing hysterically. "And I hate Daddy too! I hate that he's always with some other woman! I hate that he has another kid! I want Daddy to only be with me!" Her cries were raw and unfiltered, driven purely by pain and possessiveness. Ivy rushed to hold her, trying to calm her down. "Sweetie, don't cry-' "Get off me!" Felicity shoved her away, glaring at Archer: "Daddy, you promised! You said when I got better, you'd stay with me and Mommy forever! You lied!
You're a liar!" The door was still wide open. Whispers poured in like a flood. "Oh my God... this guy is disgusting..." "Did you hear? He was gonna take his real daughter's kidney for the bastard..." "The real daughter's only five. How could he even think about doing that?" The murmurs from the hallway mixed with Felicity's screams inside the room. Ivy was fumbling to soothe her daughter, but Felicity only fought harder. Archer stood there, pale as a ghost, like a criminal on public display. I held Poppy close, rubbing her back gently, whispering in her ear.
"Baby, it's time to go." Poppy buried her face in my neck, her little shoulders still trembling. I didn't look at Archer again. I turned and carried my daughter through the crowd at the door. When I reached the elevator, I glanced back one last time. 12:39 Grandma Doesn't Know Me? Then Keep Your Hands Off My Villa! 19.0% Through the open door of the room, I could see- Archer was trying to approach the sobbing Felicity while Ivy stood helplessly beside them. People in the hallway were holding up phones. A nurse was trying to disperse the onlookers. Archer must've felt my gaze.
He whipped his head around and looked straight at me. Across that distance, our eyes met for a brief, final moment. The elevator doors opened. I stepped inside with Poppy, and the doors slid shut, cutting off that chaotic world behind us. (0) 12:39 0 (0) Grandma Doesn't Know Me?
