Chapter 5 I wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes and left. Then I went to the cemetery. The flowers in front of their headstones had already withered. In that moment, I collapsed completely as all my false strength had been drained away. All the anger, regret, and pain of losing my parents built up inside me and finally exploded. I dropped to my knees and cried my heart out. "Anna, why are you here? I've been looking for you. Don't cry, I'm right here." Riley came rushing to me, pulling me into his arms in a panic.

"Are you missing your parents again?" Looking at the concern on his face, all I could feel was disgust. When he leaned in, the scent of the perfume on him made my stomach turn. "Ugh!" Suddenly, I threw up all over him. Riley wasn't the least bit annoyed, only worried. He quickly took off his dirty jacket, afraid it would get me dirty too. "Anna, are you feeling sick? Let me take you to the hospital right now." I pushed him away, still crying while looking at my parents' photos. Riley looked lost for a moment, then noticed the withered flowers, and he secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

" Sorry, Anna. I've been busy these days, so I didn't change out the flowers in time. Don't cry. I'll buy a new bouquet of flowers right now. Don't feel bad, alright?" Over the next few days, Riley stayed with me all the time to comfort me, and he stopped meeting up with Nelly. Until the day Nelly showed up. She came with a bouquet of white lilies. "Anna, the dead have departed. Please take care of yourself and don't let your parents worry about you from the afterlife" As she finished, a mocking smile crept onto her lips as she bent down to lay the flowers at the headstone.

I kicked them away. "Get out. You don't deserve to bring flowers to my parents. Nelly suddenly sat down on the ground, clutching her belly as she wailed dramatically. "Anna, why did you push me? My stomach hurts..." I hadn't even touched her. Riley rushed over, quickly helping Nelly up while calling the hospital. He took her to the ambulance, then returned. I couldn't help but find everything so absurd as I watched him so obviously anxious, yet forcing himself to stay with me. I then said, "If you're worried about Nelly just go to the hospital." "How could I worry about her?

I just don't want her to cause problems," he said as he tried to comfort me. If you don't like her, I'll make sure she stays away from us in the future." I ignored him and sat in front of my parents' headstone arranging the flowers and decorations. Meanwhile, Riley's phone constantly buzzed with text notifications. He glanced at it once, then shoved it into his pocket. Then, calls started to come in. "Anna, I'll head home to get something." He said as he answered the call and hurried away, driving straight toward the hospital.

He didn't come back, not even after the entire funeral service was over. On my way home, Riley called me. "Sorry, Anna, I got a flat tire on the road and just finished fixing it. I'll pick you up for work tomorrow morning. Get some rest tonight." He then hung up in a hurry. Afterward, I saw Nelly's latest post on her Facebook. "My favorite person is right by my side." The photo was of Riley feeding her cooked oats with a spoon-the same bowl I had bought a long time ago. Staring at my phone's darkened screen, I felt nothing inside. In two days, Riley would be leaving.

Nelly's triumph wouldn't last long. Support Share Chakker & admin
