Chapter 9 Leonardo glanced at me casually. But when he saw my tears, he slammed on the brakes and stared at me in shock. He reached over, a little uncertain and wiped my cheek. "Don't cry. I won't say anything more. It's my fault," he said quietly. Monica leaned forward from the back seat, asking, "What's wrong, Sofia? Why are you crying? Is it because of how badly Fabio treated you? That bastard-" "No, no," I said quickly, waving my hand. My fingers brushed Leonardo's as he wiped my tears and we both pulled back like we'd beer burned.
Just like that, whatever sadness I had been feeling melted away. I felt my cheeks heat up. I couldn't bear to look at them. So, I stared out of the window instead. Leonardo cleared his throat and said, "Let's hurry up to get home. We need to start cooking!" Soon enough, he pressed the gas and drove fast toward his house. His home was a small Spanish-style building. His parents had gone to support the cause in North Africa years ago and hadn't returned, so the house was big and quiet. After we settled in, Leonardo rushed into the kitchen and started to show off his cooking.
The house was full of life. We spent the New Year there with laughter and warmth. Because the Altomare Family had found me, my household registration stayed under my name. This time, I planned to move to Rome for good. Once I finished everything I needed to do, I planned to treat the Castellano siblings to a nice meal and even booked a table at the best restaurant in Tuscany. While waiting at the restaurant, I saw people I knew. At the same table were Fabio's officers and colleagues. And then Fabio and Serena. Leonardo and Monica came in and noticed them.

Monica asked if Leonardo should go say hello, but he refused. He went to the restroom and didn't come back for a while. Then, we heard a commotion outside. When we rushed over, Leonardo had pinned Fabio to the ground and was beating him. No one could pull him away. Monica and I hurried to separate them. Every punch Leonardo struck looked deadly and Serena screamed that she would call the police. Fabio looked at us with a terrifying, dark expression. When he finally opened his mouth, I understood why Leonardo had lost control. "You two really got together. No wonder you wanted to divorce me.
You're something else, Sofia,' he spat. His words made my blood boil. I stormed forward and slapped him hard. The force hurt my palm. "Fabio, you have no right to accuse me. Leonardo and I are innocent. You're the one without the right to judge." Fabio froze from the hit. Serena lunged toward me, but Monica grabbed her arm. I used that moment to slap Serena as well. "You-" "What do you mean, 'you'?" I yelled. 11:33 pm GP "Serena, are you someone who steals other people's things and spreads lies?
Back at home, you whispered to my parents, made me the villain, pretended to be weak and convinced them I was bullying you. Since Fabio kept provoking me, I tolerated it. But don't throw dirt on me now." "Leonardo, what happened? Tell me." I turned to Leonardo, who was breathing hard with anger. Leonardo responded as he panted, "She kept spreading rumors at dinner that you and I were having an affair. She said Fabio divorced you because you cheated." I looked at Fabio with nothing but contempt. My three-year marriage felt like a cruel joke. "Fabio, I thought we had ended things with dignity.
We agreed to be strangers. I even steppe aside for Serena. But you crossed the line." Fabio tried to speak, but he looked at Leonardo, standing between us protectively and hesitated "Fabio, you chose Serena over me again and again. That is why I divorced you. Do you understand?" I continued, "I don't love you anymore. I let you go so you could be free. If I hear you slander m again, I won't hesitate to report your misconduct to the police."
