Chapter 81: When Wendy emerged from the bathroom, Stanley was already gone, likely summoned by Jessica's phone call. A bitter smile played on her lips as she pondered the situation. Her phone buzzed, breaking her reverie—it was a call from Lilian. Wendy promptly answered. "Wendy, Jessica has invited some friends over. Would you like to join us?" Was Lilian truly showing kindness?
Wendy replied simply, "Sure, I'll be there shortly." Cecelia, upon hearing the news, hurried over in concern. "Wendy, I have doubts about Lilian's motives! With George out of prison, are you certain about visiting the Crones' house?" Wendy remained composed, her voice unwavering. "I just need to clarify something." Despite Cecelia's worries, she insisted on accompanying Wendy to the Crones' residence. Upon their arrival, the house hummed with activity.
Jessica's guests had all gathered—Benny and several wealthy heirs from their social circle. When Benny caught sight of Wendy, his expression soured. "Wendy, what are you doing here?" Jessica intervened with a smile, "I invited Wendy." Benny appeared visibly displeased. "Why invite her? We don't want her around." Wendy took no offense.

She teasingly blinked at Benny, offering a smirk. "I'm not interested in playing with beginners either." Benny froze, left speechless. He was no novice! He was a skilled player! The humiliation from their last game where Wendy had soundly defeated him flooded back, prompting Benny to impulsively rise from his seat. "Wendy, dare to challenge me again?" He needed to win, to salvage his pride. Wendy raised an eyebrow, visibly unimpressed. "I'm afraid I'm quite busy." Benny was on the verge of explosion.
"You little..." Cecelia couldn't contain her laughter. Benny, the young tyrant, was likely only intimidated by Stanley. Apart from him, Wendy seemed to be the only one capable of putting Benny in his place. She was convinced that one day Wendy would make this little bully bow before her. At that moment, Lilian reappeared. "Wendy, you're back! Since everyone is present, let me introduce someone." George stepped forward, facing the group.
Lilian beamed and said, "This is Wendy's adoptive father from the countryside." Benny and the other wealthy heirs looked at George in confusion. "This is Wendy's adoptive father? Why does he have only one eye?" Wendy's gaze fixed on George as Lilian and Jessica revealed they had brought him there.
George slowly approached Wendy, his demeanor calm. Before Benny could react, Cecelia stepped in, wary of the day that began with such tension and unease. "You shouldn't be near her. Keep your distance from Wendy with your wicked intentions." George hesitated but then spoke solemnly, "Wendy, I'm your adoptive father. I relocated you to the countryside. Are you truly going to feign ignorance?"
As Wendy observed George, a flicker of malice beneath his facade, she saw a glint of recognition in his eyes—as if he were asserting, "You know who I am." George shifted his expression to one of sorrow, though it was eerily composed. "Wendy, I shouldn't have come here. I shouldn't have caused you embarrassment. Your well-being is all that matters. I'll return to the countryside now."
