What about you?] [I'm at school. | need your help with something] [Go ahead] [Can you look into those guys who once tried to harass Zada?] [Sure. 1'll let you know when | find something] That was all Halsey needed. Shaun was always decisive and fast. If he said he'd take care of it, she knew he would. Ding! Another message from Shaun appeared. [Is something bothering you?] Halsey's lips curved into a small smile.

[Thanks for asking, but I'm fine] [Glad to hear that.] The heavy feeling in her chest lifted, replaced by warmth. Her mood brightened instantly. She pulled out her sketching pens ---- and went back to working on her designs. Before long, it was lunchtime. Halsey got up and headed to the cafeteria. The moment she stepped in, she spotted two familiar figures- Zada and Sierra. Zada had told Sierra to take it easy and rest, yet here Sierra was, showing up at school. But Sierra reached out and grabbed her arm. "What are you getting? I'll stand in line for you. | can go buy it." Zada couldn't take it anymore and stepped in. "Sierra, stop throwing yourself at her. Can't you see she's ignoring you?" Sierra instantly put on a fragile look. "Zada, don't say that. Halsey just misunderstood me. Once that's cleared up, we'll be good friends again." She pulled out her lunch card and turned back to Halsey.

"Let me buy you lunch. | know my family doesn't have much, but ---- I've been working hard. I've got three part-time jobs. Today's on me, okay?" Halsey almost laughed. In fact, she did. "Thanks for the offer, but you should keep your money. | don't need you paying for me." Sierra's face crumpled in hurt. "Why not? Are you still mad at me? Zada rolled her eyes. "That's enough, Sierra. You work hard for your money, and if she doesn't want you to pay, then don't force it. Let's just eat." Sierra turned back to Halsey.

"What will it take for you to forgive wae Halsey looked her straight in the eye. "There's nothing to forgive. It's not like we have some deep grudge between us. I'm gonna get my lunch now." She tried to walk away. But Sierra blocked her path. "I know you're upset. Tell me what | need to do, and I'll do anything!" "Sierra!" Zada exclaimed. "if | grovel and beg, will you forgive me?" Sierra blurted out. Zada's jaw dropped. "Are you out of your mind?" ---- Halsey instantly understood what Sierra was trying to do-play the helpless victim so that everyone watching would side with her.

The girl was cunning-that much was clear. "Just stop clinging to me. I'm busy." With that, Halsey pulled free and walked away. But behind her came Sierra's voice, loud enough for the whole room to hear. "Halsey!" With a dull thud, Sierra groveled. It was peak lunch hour, and the cafeteria was packed. Everyone turned to stare as Sierra groveled in front of Halsey. She had done it in public. Sierra had actually groveled before Halsey!
