He frowned at the mountain of missed calls from work, muttering under his breath, "It was supposed to be my private time. Why the hell is the office still blowing me up?" 1 played dumb. "Hm? What'd you say?" He forced a smile. "Nothing. Just saying I was swamped overseas-didn't think things here would pile up too." He tapped a voice message. "Everything okay? You look like you're about to puke." Doria didn't even look at me. He spun toward Lily. "Lily, go get settled somewhere. I've got a fire to put out." He took off running. The second he was out of sight, Lily dropped the sweet-girl act. She stuck her hand out at me. "Lily Fairchild." I looked at her hand. Didn't take it. Just nodded. "Mm. Fitting name." I added cheerfully, "Oh, and bolt that door shut behind you. Wouldn't want either of you escaping to ruin someone else's life." I spun around and walked off. Behind me, Lily was practically stomping craters into the floor.
