A single mistake, and I would lose both my hostage and my head. "Okay, so your people have left safely! Can | go now, man? Please?" Terry's voice trembled. "Let me go to the hospital, okay?
I'm gonna die from blood loss at this rate..." The gash on his neck might not have been deep, but | had smashed his head with a bottle. He was not exaggerating, especially with blood running down his head and soaking my fingers. | frowned as the reality sank in. With my employees gone, my predicament had grown dangerously acute. How was | going to get out of this? "How do | know you won't attack me back?" | asked coldly. "| won't, man! Bro, I'm scared of you! | don't want to piss you off!" he protested. "Just let me go, please!" ---- A waiter slipped past me.
Without warning, he pressed his fingers together, hardening his hand like a blade, and struck my arm-the one holding Terry hostage. Pain shot through my arm, numbing it, and | heard him yell, "Let him go!" It felt like a car had slammed into my arm. My grip faltered, and the waiter snatched Terry away and dragged him to safety. In an instant, bodyguards surged into the hall, surrounding me. Terry, finally free from shock, shoved his rescuer away ina mix of rage and exhilaration. "How dare you threaten me, you piece of shit? Now you pay!" he shouted.
