Gold Moon: Mated To The Beta Twins I am going to kill the bastard when I get my hands on him, drugging someone just because they don't like being locked up in a vehicle. "Let us know when you need another stop, we have enough time to get to the residence." I tell Mateja. The other teams from my unit are at the residence, so far it is quiet and Mateja had been right about Marcel. He left before dawn and returned to the mansion, but he didn't go inside to check on Dawn and Mateja.

Mateja still isn't comfortable inside the SUV and we have opened everything that can be opened, but we need to distract her for a while. "What can you tell us about the guards at the mansion?" I ask her to keep her mind off the confined space she is in. "We never saw one of the other watchdogs, it was always Marcel that would come inside. He only did that if Lucas wouldn't be dropping by, so our Mother wouldn't panic if he didn't show up." Mateja answers. She looks out the window for a moment, before she turns back at me and I can see there is something she remembers.

"Most of Lucas' watchdogs were gone before we moved to a new place, as you know Marcel was the only one that was there from the start and he would be there ever after Lucas succeeded with his plan. There is one other person that has been there from the start, Lucas' fated Mate Jack. Both of them did their best to convince us that Jack was just another watchdog, but it only took Echo thirty minutes to smell the truth." Mateja says, while she keeps looking at me. I am not sure what she is looking at, but Matrius is enjoying the attention.

She has a gentle smile on her face that gives her an angelic look and for a moment I can forget the life she has lived. "Jack can feel through their bond what kind of mood Lucas is in and that is what would bring him to visit us, just to see if he hadn't hurt or killed us. I don't know if Jack actually cares for us, but it made it easier to get groceries that Lucas didn't allow. At first I would ask for one or two items every now and then, after Jack kept bringing the items and Lucas didn't stop it, I figured I could ask more often for certain items.

It was only the last few times that I asked for a lot more and Jack made sure I got it all." I hear her say but she seems to be somewhere far away. Matrius and I keep an eye on her, because we don't want her to panic when she realizes she is in an SUV and not somewhere out in the open. "Pull over." I say the moment I hear her heartbeat spike and I pull her in my arms to get out of the SUV, the moment it stops. I keep holding onto Mateja as her heartbeat returns to normal and she finally seems to come back from where she was. "Are you okay, Mateja?

You looked to be a million miles away," I ask her. "I'm fine. It just happens from time to time, I still don't now where I go but it seems to get a little clearer each time. It always seems to be something familiar, but no matter how often I go over it I can't remember 1/2 12:12 Thu, Jan 22 G After a few more minutes, Mateja tries to get out of my arms, but Matrius isn't willing to let her go, and when she realizes that I am not going to let her go, she settles down.

"We can get back onto the road, we need to get to Crescentwood Residence." Mateja says, probably hoping that I will let her go. I place her on the seat next to me, but my arm stays around her waist. I don't want to risk her going to that unknown place again and I hope that my arm around her waist keeps her focused on something else. "Can you describe how it makes you feel when you go into that state of trance?" Clover asks. Mateja is staring out the window again, but she seems more focused this time.

Almost as if she is trying to relive the memory, trying to find the feeling it gives her "I would almost say that it feels like home, if I could remember what home felt like. I feel safe in that state of trance, it feels warm and comforting and I know that felt like that a long time ago." Mateja whispers. "A childhood memory." Clover says and I believe that she is right. Mateja's heartbeat is steady, so she isn't going back into that state of trance again, but she still seems miles away. I keep looking at her face to see if she is okay and she seems perfectly fine to me so far.

"I don't remember much from my childhood, from the years that my Father was still alive. All I can remember from that time are feelings; feeling safe, feeling protected and most of all feeling loved." Mateja mumbles. She speaks as if she is talking to herself, unaware of the other occupants of the SUV. As if she tries to make sense of her memories by mentioning them out loud, maybe to trigger another memory that will give her some answers. "How did your Father die?" Clover asks, and when I give her a strange look, she just shakes her head.

"Mom never told me, all I remember is that we moved into a new house one day and that she told me that Dad was gone for good." Mateja says. "I cried for hours and my Mother finally got angry with me, yelling that I shouldn't cry for the dead." For a moment I had thought that maybe her Mother had twisted the truth, saying that someone is gone for good doesn't necessarily mean that they are dead. That person can be in prison, in a coma or something else along those lines, it doesn't always mean death. 6.8K B Archer
