It felt like a giant fist was crushing his heart , squeezing the air right out of his lungs . Their last real conversation ... she was asking when he'd be home , saying she had a surprise for him . The day she told him she was pregnant . He never answered . His fingers were stiff as he typed : [ Where are you ? ] The message sent , a single green bubble in a sea of her white ones . [ Wren , we need to talk . ] He stared at the screen until his eyes burned . Seconds ticked by . The screen would go dark , he'd tap it on again . Over and over .
The only sounds were his own ragged breathing and the howl of the wind outside . He lost track of time - ten minutes , maybe half an hour - before his phone finally buzzed . Just one line of text : [ There's nothing to talk about . Get the divorce papers ready . ] Every word was an ice pick , stabbing him right in the heart . His hands were shaking worse now as he typed again , message after message : [ Where are you ? ] [ You just had surgery . It's snowing out there , don't be reckless . ] [ Wren , please . Just tell me where you are . I'll come get you . ] [ Come home , okay ?
We can talk this out . ] [ Stop being stubborn . ] Nothing . The messages just sat there , unanswered . The lonely green bubbles lined up like tombstones for every plea and apology he could think of . He finally dropped the phone , slumping back on the sofa . The apartment had never felt this big , this empty . No scent of her , no sign of her . Then the small things started hitting him . 09:47 Dumning My CEO Hushand AND Hie Annovinar Little Hain Wo the Dart Connor MI Madal YU Chapter 5 The way she always left a night - light on for him .

The soft blanket she always kept on the couch for their movie nights . The way she'd complained about the leaky faucet he kept promising to fix but never did .... And he remembered the look in her eyes at the hospital . A long time ago , she used to look at him and her eyes would smile . Then , not so long ago , that light went out and was replaced by caution . But today ... today her eyes were just cold . Empty . No love , no hate . Just ... nothing . Like he was a stranger . Night fell . The snowstorm got worse .
His heart felt like a hollow cave , the wind howling right through it , a cold that quickly turned to raw panic . Where was she ? Was she safe ? Was she hurt , stuck somewhere in the snow ? Was she ... Ronan shot up from the sofa , grabbed his coat , and bolted for the door . " Daddy ... ? " The guest room door creaked open . Orion was standing there barefoot , rubbing his sleepy eyes , fresh tear tracks on his face . He saw Ronan by the front door , and his eyes instantly filled with a fragile , terrified look . " Are you going to find Wren ? Are you leaving me too ? " Ronan froze .
He turned around slowly , every frantic impulse nailed to the floor by that one small voice . " No. Daddy's not going anywhere . " He let go of the doorknob , walked back , and knelt in front of Orion , his voice as calm as he could make it . He reached for his son , but Orion launched himself at him like a scared animal , clinging to his neck for dear life . Ronan held him with one arm and used his free hand to order a kids ' meal from their usual spot . Ronan felt like he was being torn in two . In his arms was his terrified son . Out there somewhere was his missing , fragile wife .
He kept looking at the front door , then back down at the child in his arms . The weight of both responsibilities was crushing him , making it hard to breathe . The food came . He managed to get Orion to eat a few bites , but the boy had no appetite and just shook his head . Ronan got him ready for bed , changed him into clean pajamas , and tucked him in again . This time , Orion refused to sleep alone . He insisted Ronan stay with him . If Ronan so much as shifted his weight , Orion would jolt awake .
So Ronan lay there beside him , holding his small body close , promising over and over that he wouldn't leave . Finally , Orion's breathing evened out , and he drifted off to sleep . Ronan lay perfectly still , his body rigid . 09:47 C Dumping My CEO Husband AND His Annoying Little Heir Was the Best Career Move I Ever Made ! Chapter 5 He quietly took out his phone and sent one more message : [ Wren , please just tell me where you are . At least let me know you're safe . ] Still nothing . In the end , the only thing left he could do was send her money .
