I sighed deeply after Dane left with the doctor. Leaning my elbows on the bed, I tried to lift myself up, but my body protested. I had lied to Dane, telling him I felt fine, but the truth was far from it. Why do I feel this way?

Clicking my tongue in frustration, I pushed myself to sit upright. My head spun, and a wave of dizziness hit me, but I managed to stay upright.

Rubbing my neck, I realized how dry my throat felt. Glancing across the room, I spotted a bottle of water on a table, tantalizingly out of reach.

I balled my fists around the sheets, my feet tentatively touching the ground. “Why is the water so far away? And where’s the nurse when you need one?”

Steeling myself, I stood, but the moment I tried to move, the room spun again. Gripping the edge of the bed tightly, I fought to steady myself.

Taking a deep breath, I whispered to myself, “Let’s see how far I can get.”

My legs felt wobbly, and my vision blurred slightly, but I pressed on. Something about this strange weakness felt familiar, though

I couldn’t quite place it.

When I finally reached the water, I let out a relieved sigh. Grabbing the bottle, I gulped down several sips, the cool liquid soothing my dry throat.

As I turned to head back to the bed, my balance betrayed me. I stumbled, my arms flailing as the bottle slipped from my grasp.

“Ahhh!” I screamed as I toppled backward.

“Babe!” Dane’s voice thundered through the room just as the door burst open. His eyes went wide as he saw me falling, and in a flash, he darted forward, grabbing my arm and pulling me to him.

The water bottle spun in the air, its contents raining down on both of us. I gasped as the cold droplets hit my face, soaking me.

Dane’s hair clung to his forehead, dripping wet, and water streamed down his face, mingling with mine as I stared up at him, frozen.

“What happened here?” the nurse asked, entering the room.

Dane and I sprang apart, and his expression turned serious.

“Why did you leave your bed?” he asked, his voice low but firm as he guided me back to it.

I sat down, placing a hand on my forehead to steady myself. Dane knelt before me, his hands resting gently on my lap.

“I just wanted some water,” I admitted quietly. “There was no one around, so I thought I’d get it myself…”

“Wait,” Dane interrupted, his sharp gaze turning to the nurse. “What do you mean, no one was around? Where were you?”

The nurse, visibly nervous, avoided his eyes. “Alpha, I’m so sorry… I stepped out to get her medicine.”

Dane shot to his feet, his fist clenching at his side.

“Unacceptable!” he thundered, his voice echoing through the

room.

I jumped slightly, my eyes darting to the nurse, who was now trembling.

“Dane,” I said softly, reaching for his hand. “It’s fine. Nothing happened. See? I’m okay.”

But Dane ignored me, his glare fixed on the nurse. “I told you to take care of her! If you needed medicine, you could have waited until I returned!”

The nurse stammered, “I… I’m so sorry, Alpha. It won’t happen again.”

“Dane, please,” I whispered, squeezing his hand.

After a tense moment, he exhaled heavily and sat back down. “You’re lucky nothing happened to her,” he muttered, still glaring at the nurse.

He turned to me, brushing the back of his hand against my check. I caught his hand, smiling faintly. “I’m fine,” I said again, though the words felt hollow.

Dane’s brow furrowed as he studied me. “You’re wel. Are you cold?”

Before I could respond, he slipped off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders. Then, pulling out his handkerchief, he began gently dabbing the water from my face and hair.

Clicking my tongue softly, I muttered, “Now that you’ve given me your jacket, what’s going to keep you warm?”

He shook his head. “Don’t worry about me. I’m fine.”

Sighing, I took the handkerchief from him and began wiping the water from his face and hair. His eyes locked onto mine, a dazed expression softening his usual stern demeanor as my hand brushed against his skin.

Dane caught my hand, stopping me. “That’s enough. You need to rest.”

I nodded, letting him help me lie back down. The nurse approached with a syringe.

“Luna, I’ll need to give you a shot of vitamins,” she said gently.

I winced as the needle entered my arm, clutching Dane’s hand tightly until it was over.

I turned toward the door, surprised to see Sera and Tristan rushing into the room.

“Who brought them here?” I asked, glancing at Dane.

He looked just as surprised. “I have no idea,” he replied.

Evander stepped in behind them, raising his hands in mock surrender.

“Before you start scolding me,” he said quickly, “Dane called to tell me what happened, and the kids insisted on coming along.”

I shook my head, turning to Sera and Tristan. “You should have been patient. I was coming home soon.”

“Mum,” Sera said, frowning. “We were worried about you. We couldn’t wait.”

Tristan nodded in agreement. “Yeah, we couldn’t just sit there while you were here.”

I smiled, ruffling Tristan’s hair and pinching Sera’s cheek. “You two are so caring. Why?”

Before they could respond, the room filled with more voices.

“Aurora!”

I looked up to see my team–Trajan, Piper, Evelyn, Warrick, and Joclyn–filing into the room.

“This is a hospital, not a party,” I said, staring at them in disbelief.

“Well,” Joclyn replied with a smirk, “our beloved Luna is unwell. Of course, we had to check on her.” She walked up to me and cupped my face. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m fine,” I said softly, closing my eyes.

Joclyn’s brow arched as she studied me. “You look… pregnant.”

Her words hung in the air, silencing everyone in the room.
