Chapter 22 The Test of Authority "The office right across from you belongs to Mr. West," Michael Harris explained. "There's a private passage inside. Just a sixty-feet-walk and you'll reach the other tower. But over there is the finance and management division. This entire building is dedicated to product divisions." "The first thirty floors are the embroidery workshop areas. Floors thirty-one to fifty are for management. And the fifty-first floor is this one." Listening, Grace couldn't help but marvel at Titan Group's grandeur, two entire towers just for the company.

Pinnacle Designs only had one building. They'd planned to add another office tower by year's end, but without her embroidery backing them, she doubted Ethan could even afford the rent. "I thought Titan Group had over fifty thousand embroiderers. Can thirty floors really hold them all?" "These thirty floors are divided into five departments: Lakeview Embroidery, Capital Embroidery, Rosevale Embroidery, Riverside Embroidery, and Double-Sided Embroidery. The ones here are the elite embroiderers. The rest work in the factories.

Most importantly, you'll be the head of the Double-Sided Embroidery Department. Later today, the supervisors of the other four departments will come meet you. Here are their profiles." After explaining, Michael set the documents down and left. It was Grace's first day, and she naturally couldn't sit idle. Once he was gone, she began familiarizing herself with her tasks. They were almost the same as when she'd worked at Pinnacle: selecting suitable embroiderers for the company and screening qualified works for headquarters.

The only difference was the sheer scale, Titan had twice as many embroiderers as Pinnacle. After finishing the urgent paperwork, Grace pulled out her Autumn Competition piece, preparing to frame it herself. That was when someone knocked on the office door, hard. "Come in." She set down the embroidery and looked up. Four women entered, dressed in matching uniforms, their ages ranging widely.

1/3 "Good afternoon, Miss Miller, I'm Clara Brooks, head of Riverside Embroidery." "Good afternoon, Miss Miller, I'm Sophia Hartman, head of Lakeview Embroidery." "Good afternoon, Miss Miller, I'm Lydia Grant, in charge of Capital Embroidery." The oldest of the four, a woman likely in her fifties, spoke flatly, "I'm in charge of Rosevale Embroidery." She didn't even give her name. Grace wasn't new to this game. She could easily see it for what it was a deliberate slight. Titan had lacked a leader for Double-Sided Embroidery until this year, when the department was finally added.

Before that, Rosevale Embroidery had always been the top seller, both in quality and in sales. That supervisor had every reason to be proud. But Grace was not as easy to push around as she looked. She wore a tailored suit today, three-inches heels, her hair curled in waves, a white blazer over a black camisole, and scarlet lips that made her aura impossible to ignore. Her eyes glimmered with a smile as she glanced at the four of them, yet she didn't utter a single word. Trying to intimidate her? Please. In terms of experience, she wasn't beneath the Rosevale supervisor at all.

The four women shifted uneasily. This woman was stunning, rumored to have been personally poached from Pinnacle by Daniel. But her silence, what did it mean? Grace went back to her embroidery, treating them like air. They stood there for fifteen whole minutes before Michael returned with a catalog of embroidery samples. He raised a brow at the tense scene but said nothing. "Miss Miller, this is the catalog for you to review today. On Monday, three works need to be chosen and sent to headquarters for the Winter Competition." Grace glanced at it.

"Where are the originals?" 2/3 "Uh?" Michael froze. "Photos can have color distortions, lighting flaws, all kinds of issues. Too easy to misjudge. I only review originals." That meant anyone hoping to cut corners and claim bonuses with staged photos had no chance. It was this strictness that had once allowed Pinnacle, barely two-thirds Titan's size, to still hold its ground in Anston City. "Make sure the pieces aren't signed by the embroiderers," Grace added. "Yes, ma'am!" Michael nodded quickly. It was clear this new director wasn't one for favoritism. This was fairness.

When he left, the Rosevale supervisor finally spoke. "If there's nothing else, we'll take our leave." Grace said nothing. Though they'd asked to go, none of them dared take a step without her permission. The silence was stifling. Finally, Clara Brooks, head of Riverside, broke first, cautiously. "Miss Miller... was there something wrong with our previous work? Did we do something to displease you?" Sophia Hartman, head of Lakeview, quickly added. "Yes, please tell us. We'll make adjustments immediately." This director was not easy to mess with.

That was the only impression they could agree on. Setting aside the embroidery, Grace finally looked at them. Her face carried no smile. "I don't even know your names yet," she said. "So I wouldn't know how to address you properly." 3/3 Cedella Cedella is a passionate storyteller known for her bold romantic and spicy novels that keep readers hooked from the very first chapter.
