Chapter 616: The line barely connected before Pattie's voice erupted, frantic and sharp. "Maia, thank God you're awake! Richard - he's at the company entrance, making a scene since dawn. Says he'll jump off the rooftop if you don't show up!" Maia shot upright, her pulse spiking. "Why? Has he lost his senses?" Pattie's exasperated sigh crackled through the speaker. "Clearly. The entrance is a circus - crowds, cameras, the works. If you don't get here soon, you'll be trending for all the wrong reasons by tonight." Rubbing her temples, Maia felt frustration coil tightly in her chest.
Richard's desperation had spiraled into madness, dragging her into his chaos. "Understood," she said, her voice clipped. She flung the covers aside and swung her legs out of bed, urgency propelling her. As she stepped into the hallway, she nearly collided with Chris, who was balancing a tray of breakfast in his hands. His brow lifted, a question in his eyes. "You're up. I made-" "No time," Maia cut in, snatching her coat from the rack and shoving her feet into her shoes. "I have to go." The door slammed shut behind her, the sound echoing in the quiet apartment.

Chris stood frozen, staring at the untouched plate of eggs and toast on the tray. At the reception desk of the MCN, Richard sat on the floor at the entrance, completely ignoring the shocked, confused, or mocking stares of those around him. He tore off his tie and started throwing a tantrum. "Is this any way to treat a visitor? Do you even have a clue who I am? If anyone tries to lay a hand on me again, I'll throw myself off the roof! Get Maia out here right now! Let her face me and say what she needs to say!
If the Morgan family hadn't raised her, do you think she'd have made it this far?" Pattie planted herself in the doorway, folding her arms and releasing a heavy sigh. For the first time in years, she finally understood what it felt like to have reason on her side, yet not a single person cared to listen. Earlier, Pattie had told Richard point-blank that Maia was on her way and urged him to sit down and wait quietly near the door. Richard wanted none of it. He accused her of hiding Maia inside, tried to force his way in, and hurled insult after insult, calling Maia an ungrateful brat.
: gⱯνꞏⅽ When patience finally ran out, Pattie signaled for security to step in and remove him. What she didn't expect was for Richard to yank off his tie, drop to the floor, and start making a public spectacle out of himself right at the entrance. A faint twitch ran through Pattie's eyelid. She was convinced now - no one in the Morgan family could be called ordinary. Another sigh escaped her lips, and she lifted her gaze just in time to spot Maia approaching with a determined stride. Richard perked up the instant Maia came into view. "Maia! What took you so long?
I thought this woman was lying when she said you weren't at the company!" Pattie couldn't help but roll her eyes. In her mind, this old man's moods could flip faster than a coin. "Maia, you need to handle this. With him camped out at the door, none of our clients can even get inside." A quick nod was all Maia gave her before stepping forward and facing Richard head-on. She stared down at him and spoke in a frosty tone. "If you have business with me, meet me downstairs in the café. We are not doing this here." She didn't pause to hear his reply.
Maia spun around and strode off toward the elevator. . . .
