Love Crumbles on the Wedding Eve

---- Chapter 5 It was already noon by the time Simone woke up. He was naked, with last night's scent still lingering on his body. He called for me several times, but no response came. Then, Simone noticed the hangover pill on the table and smiled smugly. Just as he thought, all it took was a little cajoling to get me obediently coming back. After a quick wash, he headed over to the office. He even stopped on the way to buy my favorite pastries. As soon as Simone arrived, he went straight to my desk, but it was empty. He glanced at his watch.

"It's already 2:00 pm, and she still hasn't shown up?" No one answered him. Instead, everyone was looking at Simone strangely. They were hesitant to speak. It wasn't until someone handed him a phone and carefully asked, "Mr. Pozzi, what exactly is your relationship with Zoe? She posted a breakup announcement with you on Facebook-" Before the sentence was finished, Simone snatched the ---- phone away. He stared blankly at the line of text on the screen. After some time, he said, "She's probably just getting back at me for what happened yesterday. Tell her to delete it immediately.

Don't let Jasmina see it. "By the way, if she still hasn't come back before the end of the work day, count it as her being absent. Handle it according to company policy." Simone returned to his office, irritated when he recalled the Facebook post. He couldn't believe how I was still acting so spoiled even when he'd cajoled me last night. He let out a long sigh before noticing a resignation letter on his desk. On the signature lay my name-Zoe Salvatore. By the time I'd landed, my phone was flooded with over a dozen missed calls from Simone.

There was also a barrage of texts demanding an explanation. One text read, "You resigned, Zoe? All just because of something I said in anger yesterday? Are you really taking it that far?" Another said, "Come back right now! Otherwise, I'll let ---- Jasmina take your position as the director. You know how hard it was to earn that position!" Tlet out a quiet scoff at that. Even until the end, Simone was still trying to threaten me. But he was only half right. That position was hard to come by, but it was worthless to me now.

I looked at the elderly man who was slowly walking toward me, with a ring of bodyguards surrounding him. Beside him was a tall, striking young man who drew the attention of every passerby. When our eyes met, he smiled and waved at me. Then suddenly, the people behind him lit up an enormous sign. "Cara mia, your amore is here!" I immediately stiffened. Pape burst out laughing and slapped the young man on the shoulder. "That's too much, you brat. Don't scare my daughter." The man chuckled, and his subordinates quickly put the sign away. Papa pulled him to my side and introduced him.

"Zoe, this is Rosario Sortino, the Sortino heir and your partner ---- for the arranged marriage." I returned Rosario's burning gaze with a quick flash of a smile. Once we were in the car, I casually removed my scarf. Papa's eyes immediately fell on the red marks covering my neck. My heart started racing. Suddenly, Rosario took off his own scarf and draped it around my neck. He gestured at my neck and whispered, "Once all these marks fade, you'll devote yourself wholly as my wife. Do you understand?"
