---- Chapter 10 (Evelyn's POV) For the next year, Dominic never appeared before me again. But I knew he was always there. Ayoung wolf at the school who tried to ask me out would be mysteriously avoiding me the next day. Any trouble I had at work would just as mysteriously resolve itself. He was a silent shadow, watching over me from a distance, too afraid to get any closer. Lignored all of it, living my own quiet life. Until that day. Inever imagined that Chloe, stripped of her power and withered to a husk, could have escaped the Northern Wastes.
She appeared in front of the school, her appearance feral and unhinged. Her eyes, bloodshot and wild, burned with a mad hatred. " It's all your fault! You destroyed everything I had!" She pulled a sharp, silver dagger from her clothes and lunged at me, screaming, "I'm going to kill you! I'll drag you to hell with me!" ---- It all happened too fast. Just as the dagger was about to plunge into my heart, a dark figure flashed in front of me. It was Dominic. The silver dagger sank deep into his chest. He grunted in pain but didn't fall.

With his last ounce of strength, he grabbed Chloe's wrist, and a final burst of Alpha power snapped her neck. Chloe's eyes widened in disbelief as she collapsed. Dominic finally lost his strength and fell into my arms. Blood poured from his chest, staining my trench coat red. "Evelyn..." He clutched my hand, a weak but contented smile on his face. "Good... You're... you're finally holding me..." His life was fading fast. "For... forgive me... please?" he begged, as humble as a drowning man clinging to his last piece of driftwood. Ijust looked at him. I said nothing.
Under my silent gaze, the light in his eyes slowly dimmed. Finally, filled with endless regret, he closed his eyes ---- forever. A few days later, Dominic's Beta found me. He told me that Dominic's will left his entire, massive personal fortune to me. I looked at the astronomical figure and did only one thing. In my grandmother's name and my own, I started a foundation and donated all of it to help the weak and the bullied in werewolf society. And with that, I bought a one-way ticket to a distant city where no one knew my name. There, the sun is bright, and the ocean breeze is free.
Iam Evelyn. Not a mate, not a Luna. Just me.
