---- Chapter 6 (Dominic's POV) That night... Fireworks, champagne, Chloe's laughter... and Evelyn's desperate cries for help echoing through our mind-link. All the pieces crashed together in an instant. Asharp, searing pain lanced through Dominic's heart. He rushed back to the crematorium, seizing a worker by the arm. "Have you seen Evelyn?" he asked, his voice ragged with panic. The man's expression softened with pity. "She was buried about nine days ago...
A young woman, holding the urn, her grief so heavy she could barely stand." The same day he had sneered that her grandmother deserved no apology. What had he done? Numb with shock, Dominic found himself driving to Evelyn's old home, her grandmother's house. He knew. He knew this was where Evelyn would have laid her to rest. ---- He found a new, simple headstone. Beneath her grandmother's name, it simply read: From her granddaughter, Evelyn. By tradition, as her mate and fiancé, his name should have been there too. But clearly, Evelyn had denied him that right.
Dominic's knees gave out, and he fell to the ground before the cold stone. A light rain began to fall, mixing with the tears streaming down his face. He never imagined his cruelty, his blatant favoritism, could lead to this. He had lost her. Regret wrapped around his heart like a poisonous vine, suffocating him. As he ran a trembling hand over the gravestone, his fingers brushed against something hard tucked underneath. It was a file folder. Shaking, he opened it. Inside were a few photos, a voice ---- recorder, and a note.

The note was in Evelyn's neat, resolute handwriting: [ Dominic, this is my final word on the matter. For your sake, and for mine.] The next day. The Silvermoon Pack's Luna Ceremony proceeded as scheduled. But there was no joy on Dominic's face. He stared intently at the entrance, as if waiting for someone. Evelyn, please, just give me one more chance. Please show up... he prayed silently. The guests exchanged confused glances. An unsettling silence filled the hall until the pack elder cleared his throat loudly. "Alpha," he prompted, "the ceremony was meant to start an hour ago.
You..." The last flicker of hope in Dominic's eyes died. Just then, Chloe appeared at the entrance, dressed in a magnificent gown. Beaming, she walked toward Dominic, step by step. She took his hand and, in a voice loud enough for everyone to ---- hear, declared, "Dominic, my Alpha. If fate saw fit for Evelyn to abandon you, then perhaps the Moon Goddess has given me a chance to return to where I belong. I've always wanted to tell you... I regret ever leaving. Will you give mea chance to be your Luna?" Amurmur rippled through the crowd.
Under everyone's gaze, a slow, chilling smile twisted his lips. "Of course."
