by the time we pull up to the Lawrence house, the whole place is dark except for the faint glow of a TV flickering in one of the upstairs windows. 

What are you going to do?” I keep my voice low. “When you see her.”

He walks up to the door and rings the bell. Twice. Hard enough that I hear it echo inside. 

A  few  seconds later, Penny cracks the door open, hair tangled, eyes barely awake. But the second she sees my grandfather, she goes rigid, mouth dropping open. 

Jax – what-” She blinks. “What are you doing here?” 

Her parents appear behind her, looking just as confused. 

Let me guess,” Garrett mutters, not even waiting for an answer. “This is about Aria. I knew she’d bring trouble.” 

I need to see her,” my grandfather says, already stepping past them into the house. “Where is she?” 

She’s–she’s in my room.” Penny hurries ahead, leading us upstairs to the same room where I’d talked to Aria just hours ago.

Then she doesn’t listen very well.” He growls low, the sound vibrating in his chest. “But we’ll find her. She can’t be far.”

he window’s too small, so I bolt back downstairs and out the front door, shifting before I even hit the grass.  My  wolf surges forward, and Aria’s scent hits me mmediately–warm, sweet, pulling at something deep in my chest.
