16 First Night Together Alessandro stayed in his study late into the night, pondering what his brother had told him. The princess was supposed to be magic-free; he had seen it with his own eyes. Yet, he doubted his brother was lying.

The next day, Alessandro summoned his brother again, along with a doctor, for an examination, just as Cassian had instructed. The doctor confirmed that he was feeling better, that his condition had improved significantly.

When they were alone, Cassian said,

"Lessan, I wasn't lying to you. I don't know what the princess possesses. All I know is that thanks to her, I've improved. So please don't kill her, because if you do, you'll be condemning me to live in pain."

"I won't do anything to her, don't worry."

After Cassian left, Alessandro summoned the butler and instructed him to ensure the princess was in her chambers that night. The butler went to fetch April as night began to fall. The maids bathed her and dressed her in a light white nightgown with straps. Then they took her to the king's chambers and told her to wait for his majesty.

April was very nervous; she was afraid her life would end that very night. She stood perfectly still in a corner of the room, staring at the door, waiting for the king to enter.

The king was taking his time. April grew tired of standing, so she squatted down and finally sat on the floor. Hours passed, and the king did not appear. April felt her eyelids grow heavy. She fought against sleep, but in the end, she lost and fell asleep.

Alessandro had been working more than usual, and had ended up staying late. When he entered his room, he turned on the light. He was tired, so he took off his clothes and, just as he was about to go to bed, he noticed someone in the corner of his room. It was the princess, who had fallen asleep hugging her knees. He had completely forgotten that he had asked the butler to take her to her chambers that night. He approached her and tried to wake her, but he couldn't; she was fast asleep. Alessandro couldn't leave her sleeping on the floor, so he picked her up and gently placed her on the bed.

Alessandro couldn't leave her sleeping on the floor, so he picked her up and gently placed her on the bed. He stared at her intently. She was a beautiful young woman with delicate features. Alessandro wanted to see if it was true that she possessed magic, and there was only one way to do so. He took a letter opener from the nightstand and made a rather deep cut on his hand. After cleaning the wound, he bandaged it and lay down beside the princess.

Alessandro had a lot of trouble sleeping; sometimes he only slept three hours because he always had nightmares that woke him up. However, that night he slept soundly, as he hadn't in a long time.

The next day, when Abril woke up, she found herself lying next to the king. He was fast asleep and holding her. She remained motionless, not knowing what was happening. She couldn't remember how she had ended up in that situation. Her stomach began to rumble. Abril was starving, having been unable to eat dinner the previous day because the servants hadn't allowed it. She wondered when the king would wake up and let her go. All she wanted was to return to her small house in the farthest part of the castle and eat her fill.

When Alessandro awoke, he felt a strange warmth. Opening his eyes, he saw he was embracing the princess. He thought she was still asleep and was about to slowly get up when he heard a growling sound—the princess's stomach. He stood up and saw how embarrassed she was. Alessandro ignored her as if he hadn't heard anything. He removed the bandage from his hand and was surprised to see the wound had almost completely healed. He turned to face the princess and said,

"Get up. I know you're awake." April stood up and immediately knelt down. She was frightened because the king's tone of voice was stern. She said,

"I'm sorry, Your Majesty. I was disrespectful. Please spare my life."

"I said stand up, not kneel." April stood up, trembling, and didn't dare look at him.

"I'm not going to kill you, so stop trembling. It bothers me."

"I'm sorry, I didn't..." Alessandro approached her and said,

"Look at me." April fearfully raised her face. He had a calm expression on his face; he didn't seem angry despite his tone of voice.

He showed her his hand and asked,

"Did you touch my wound?"

"No, Your Majesty. I fell asleep yesterday. I didn't realize what time you arrived. I just woke up a moment ago."

"I see." April's stomach growled again. She felt embarrassed, her face turning red. Alessandro said,

"You must be hungry. I'll order breakfast for you." Alessandro began to get dressed, while
