Chapter 42

The guise in Shawn's eyes was nothing but a jest to Elaine. Shawn was wrong for never trusting Elaine, not even once. Bianca was equally at fault for indulging Daisy and allowing her to slander Elaine without remorse. Shawn knew it was futile to say anything at that point; their presence would only make Bianca's situation even more awkward. Seeing that Elaine refused to utter a single word to him, he had no choice but to relent.

"Bianca, let's go." Bianca deliberately cast a glance at Elaine, her eyes filled with apology, but the corner of her gaze was clearly focused on Kingsley, who stood beside Elaine. She didn’t think she had ever seen him in Boynton; Kingsley rarely made public appearances, so Bianca had never had the chance to encounter him before. However, that didn’t stop her instincts from alerting her at the sight of such an attractive man.

Standing next to Kingsley, Elaine looked down at Bianca's almost divinely beautiful face with a scrutinizing gaze. She wanted to see how long this female lead, who everyone in the novel praised, could maintain her façade. Having finished reading the novel, Elaine did not believe for a second that Bianca was as kind as she appeared. She was merely adept at pretending to control everyone in the Yeats family, compelling them to abandon their true family ties.

In the novel, the author devoted considerable space to describing Bianca's beauty, unmatched by any other female character. This ensured that Bianca’s romantic endeavors would proceed smoothly, as nearly no man could resist her charms. To the male characters, Bianca was an enchanting woman—intelligent and elegant—qualities that those airheaded female characters could not compare to. Even though Bianca ended up marrying Finley, she remained an unrequited love for the supporting male characters.

Shawn led Bianca out of Starlight Fashion with a solemn expression. Bianca followed him silently, lost in thought. She sensed that something was amiss with Tucker. Earlier, when she had apologized to Elaine, Tucker had remained silent, standing quietly by as if turning a blind eye to her apology. Only Shawn had spoken on her behalf. In the past, Tucker would have certainly stood up for her; they had grown up together, and he had always supported her, introducing her as his sister to everyone in his life. This was a privilege Elaine had never experienced.

Tucker's unusual behavior puzzled Bianca and left her feeling a little lost and worried. She had no idea what Elaine and Tucker had discussed before her arrival. When Shawn had exited the office, he seemed to harbor some compassion for Elaine because of what she had said. This situation was detrimental to Bianca and made her feel increasingly wary. In truth, she had apologized to Elaine to test her character, even taking her to his Dream Road Romance.

However, the temptation still made her feel uneasy. The relationship between Elaine and her brothers had not improved; on the contrary, it had worsened. Bianca had invested so much time and energy in cultivating her perfect persona. Whether it was her parents, brothers, or other high-quality men around her, they had all brought substantial benefits to her life. She had known since childhood that people often judged others by appearances. Her seven brothers adored her, which naturally led others to treat her better because of their favorable attitude.

"Bianca," Shawn said, pulling him out of his thoughts. He looked at her delicate lace ensemble, recalling when Elaine had coldly accused Bianca of wrongdoing. Though Bianca had been sensible enough not to say much, the wrongs from that encounter had left her eyes filled with grievance. Yet, Bianca's actions only made Shawn feel more protective of her, his heart leaning further toward her side.

"What’s wrong?" he asked. Bianca shook her head.

"It’s nothing. I’m just a little worried about Elaine; she seems to resent you quite a bit right now."

Shawn replied with certainty, "You don’t need to worry about her. It always works out in the end. After all, haven’t all our misunderstandings been cleared up? I understand she’s upset, but she shouldn’t be taking it out on you. You’re innocent."

As Elaine had expected, Shawn still believed it wouldn’t be long before they reconciled. To him, this was merely a minor issue, no different in nature from any other disagreement they had had before.

"Shawn, don’t worry," Bianca reassured him. "I believe Elaine is just letting off steam."

"Yeah," Shawn replied, seeing that he remained unmoved by Elaine's words and that he still sided with her. Bianca felt a sense of relief. As for Tucker, she resolved to speak with him when she returned home.

Suddenly, Shawn remembered something important. "Right, isn’t the mayor of Boynton holding a charity party soon? They specifically invited you."

Bianca nodded, "Yes, I met Mrs. Craig a year ago. Ingram Craig’s wife, Penelope, was pregnant with twins when she was drugged and nearly kidnapped on the street. Fortunately, I intervened and helped her. Since then, Penelope and I have become close friends."

Shawn nodded. "Well, get ready. You’ll meet many important people at this charity event. Let Mom and the others take you." He knew that Bianca was outstanding, even admired by the mayor.

Bianca smiled faintly. "I know." She touched up her makeup in the bathroom. When she came out and didn’t see Shawn, alarm bells rang in her heart.

At Starlight Fashion, Sally was subdued. Only Elaine remained in the office. Without the previous burden, Sally addressed Elaine directly by her name.

"My dear Rose, you have no idea how hard it was for me to hold back from cursing out your two-faced sister. What’s so great about her? How dare she act arrogantly in front of you? It’s simply outrageous! If she knew that you are the famous Rose, she would definitely be flabbergasted." Imagining the scene of Bianca realizing Elaine was Rose made Sally chuckle.

"I really don’t understand how such a woman can be liked by so many people. She seems so pretentious. Do they really appreciate a person who plays tricks behind their backs? Elaine is the real fairy, okay? Those who don’t like you must be blind."

Elaine was amused by her words. "Thank you for your hard work. Let’s have a big dinner tonight to celebrate."

Sally let out a happy whistle. "That’s settled then."
