---- Chapter 8 | never saw Chester again after that day. Taking over Larson Group catapulted me to the top as the youngest power broker in the criminal underworld. No longer just Ms. Larson, | was then the Larson family's true head. At the family council, Eric officially asked for my hand in marriage. Three months later, in the chapel on Coralvento Island. Eric held my hand, his warmth seeping through the veil, his eyes filled with love and tenderness. "Tania, you always put on a brave face, but | need you to know that your hidden vulnerabilities aren't your downfall.
They're the precious treasures | vow to guard for a lifetime. "lreleased Juliana's ashes into the international ---- waters, and those who once conspired against you are now facing their demons in hell." His voice chilled for a moment, then softened, " Starting today, I'll be by your side forever, your unwavering support." Eric got down on one knee, presenting the expensive diamond ring he had custom-made. "Tania, | love you. Will you marry me?" My eyes widened in joy, and just as | was about to say "I will," the church doors slammed open. Chester burst in, a mess.
His suit was crumpled, his hair wild, and his once confident eyes were then red and desperate, like an animal trapped in a corner. "Tania, you can't marry him!" he bellowed, charging at us. Eric's bodyguards intercepted him, but he fought back with the frenzy of a madman. "Release me!" His eyes blazed with a mix of fury and pain as he stared at me, his voice raspy with emotion. "Tania, you can't do this. You can't marry ---- him! We're soulmates. Don't you remember? You promised to be by my side forever!" He stumbled and collapsed at my feet, his knees hitting the ground with a thud.

He pulled out a timeworn iron box from his coat, his hands shaking as he flipped it open to reveal a tarnished silver ring. It was a symbol of our undying bond, a token from a love that felt as old as time. "| realize my mistake, Tania, | really do," he pleaded, trying to slide the ring onto my finger. | jerked my hand away, and the ring clattered to the ground, discarded like a piece of worthless trash. "Chester, my love for you is gone.
You're nothing but a ghost haunting my happiness." | rose on my toes and pressed my lips to Eric's ina kiss that was soft yet powerful, a kiss that felt like a warm ray of sunshine piercing through the gloom of my past. The spark in Chester's eyes died out completely. ---- He let out a laugh, sharp and filled with despair. "You've found your happiness, but I've lost you forever. I'm doomed to a life without joy!" he cried out. With a sudden move, he shoved the bodyguard aside.
"If you won't turn back to me in this life, I'll wait for you in the next!" In a swift, decisive motion, he drove the dagger from his sleeve straight into his heart. As blood gushed forth, Eric swiftly wrapped his arms around me, shielding me from the horror. The day of the funeral was draped in a curtain of unending rain. | was there to bid farewell to the past, to see Chester off on his last journey. Seth stood by the grave, his gaze fixed on me. Rain soaked his hair, his eyes were red-rimmed, anda shadow of stubble darkened his jaw, giving him a worn and weary look.
---- As | walked closer, he tensed, then stopped, keeping a respectful distance, as if he feared disturbing my peace. "Tania," his voice broke, "| know | don't deserve to see you, but | had to come... to tell you I'm sorry. "I've seen Juliana for who she really is, and | realize now that it was you who saved me back then. Juliana lied to me, and all this time, I've been her accomplice in hurting you." He looked up, his eyes bloodshot, "Chester paid for his sins with his life, but I'm still here, and | want to make things right.
Tania, I'd do anything to make up for what I've done, anything to ease your anger. Please, can you give me a chance?" "There's no need," | cut him off, my voice steady, " Seth, whatever we had was gone the moment you sided with Juliana against me. "| can't forgive you. You'll have to live with the guilt that's eating you up inside." He stood there, paralyzed, tears streaming down his face in silence, as if he had been drained of all his ---- strength. | turned away, and Eric's arm came around my shoulders, warm and reassuring.
"Let's go." In the rearview mirror, Seth remained motionless like a forsaken statue-alone and forlorn. Some wounds might heal, but they would leave scars that lasted forever. Some betrayals ran so deep, forgiveness would no longer be an option. As for me and my future? With Eric. Together, we would walk a path filled with happiness and certainty.
