Chapter 10 That night, Mike came back. He was drunk, and the second he walked into the room, he stumbled and dragged me down with him. We both hit the floor hard. "You're drunk. I'll make you some hangover soup," I said, trying to push him off, but he wouldn't budge. Instead, his hands went to his shirt, fumbling with the buttons, and those intense, possessive eyes locked on me. That was when it hit me he wasn't actually drunk. "Mike, think about what you're doing. We're just partners. You're not allowed to touch me!" He suddenly covered my mouth and whispered in my ear, "Doesn't matter.
You're my wife. I'm gonna touch you because I want to." I shoved him away with all my strength. "No! I'm divorcing you. You can't touch me." The words hung in the air, and the whole room went silent. Mike's face darkened. "I knew it. I knew you were gonna leave me." He let go of me, looking crushed. "You're so heartless. Did you already forget about me?" "What are you talking about?" I asked, confused. "Do you still remember Mikey?" His words pulled me straight back to my childhood, back when I was still in elementary school. There was a boy at school with long hair who always wore a mask.

Everyone used to laugh at him, calling him girly. But I stepped in to protect him and led him to the little hill behind the school. "You can't be so weak," I told him. "You've got to learn how to protect yourself." He slowly lifted his head, pulled down his mask, and said softly, "Thanks. I just wanted to grow out my hair so I could donate it to my aunt. She has cancer." That was when I finally saw his face, and he was way more handsome than I ever expected. I fell for him instantly. From that day on, I followed him everywhere, protecting him whenever I could. He told me his name was Mikey.
1/ Later, after his aunt passed away, he moved away, too. "All these years, I'd been looking for you," Mike said now. "The day I finally heard your thoughts, I realized you were the one I'd been searching for. You're the only person whose thoughts I can hear. "I didn't tell you right away because I wanted to see if you'd come to me on your own. I wanted to know if you still remembered me." "I kept waiting until one day I heard your thoughts. You said once you saved up two million dollars, you'd leave me. That's why I've been avoiding you lately.
I didn't want to face losing you." As he spoke, his eyes grew red. I was stunned. What were the odds? He could hear people's thoughts, too? "And I figured out you could hear mine as well," he continued. "That's why I tested you by thinking certain things." I looked at him with guilt in my chest. "I'm sorry. I never meant to use you. I was just scared of being abandoned again, so I thought if I saved up enough money, I'd leave first." "Do you still want to leave me now?" he asked quietly. I shook my head.
Before, I wanted to leave because I thought he didn't love me, and that staying would only bring misery. I had figured I'd be better off relying on myself. But now... Now I knew that he was Mikey, and that he'd been waiting for me all this time. So no, I wasn't leaving. And suddenly, it all clicked. That was why, in my past life, he refused to touch Tilda. He knew it wasn't me. The thought barely had time to settle before his warm lips brushed against my cheek. He murmured, "Skye, stay with me forever." My eyes burned with tears. "Okay. Forever." I was so glad I had a second chance at life.
This time, I didn't miss my true love. Continue Reading 2/2
